Did you know?

Asa H. Gordon Library is named for Professor Asa H. Gordon, the first professor at the school to publish a book. He was a professor from 193? to 1941. He met his wife, Joan, at the college, and they were married on the steps of Hill Hall. See more about the Gordons in the display case and on the first floor bulletin board.

In honor of Asa H. Gordon, we are hosting SSU Authors Day on Thursday, April 7. Five authors from the SSU family who have published books will be giving talks about their work. Earn S.T.R.I.P.E.S. credit for attending one of the author talks.

Dr. Johnson-Simon is an editor of The Second Generation of African American Pioneers in Anthropology, which focuses on 15 African American anthropologists who trained in the late 1950s and 1960s.

Dr. Johnson's 2016 memoir From "N Word" to Mr. Mayor: Experiencing the American Dream reflects on his journey from his birth in 1942 through Jim Crow, the civil rights movement, affirmative action, and then becoming mayor of the City of Savannah from 2004 to 2011.
