Gordon Library Student Ambassadors

About the Program

Welcome to the Gordon Library Student Ambassador (GLSA) Program—a student-led initiative designed to strengthen connections between the library and students.

Ambassadors help promote the library’s resources, services, and events by drawing on their first-hand knowledge of SSU students' interests and needs. Through this program, you’ll work with the Student Success and Outreach Librarian to gain valuable leadership, marketing, outreach, and project management experience while making a direct impact on your peers’ academic success and earning volunteer experience that looks great on a résumé.

As an ambassador, you might choose to:

  • Create engaging social media campaigns for the library.

  • Participate in outreach activities like event tabling.

  • Design promotional materials such as flyers, posters, or videos.

  • Develop and host creative events in collaboration with student organizations.

  • Curate fun activities like Blind Date with a Book or book displays for the library's lobby based on any subject of your choosing.

  • Provide peer-to-peer guidance on using library resources.

You can participate in the Library Ambassadors as much or as little as you want! We know you're busy, so there are no concrete time commitments to join us in spreading the news about the library. We're keeping it flexible so you can align the activities with your own academic and professional interests.

1-2-3 Commitment

The 1-2-3 Commitment is at the heart of the Gordon Library Student Ambassador Program. It’s a simple framework designed to give ambassadors structure while leaving plenty of room for creativity and choice:

  • Attend 1 orientation training with your fellow ambassadors to get the semester started

  • Create 2 deliverables - small projects or contributions you design and complete to promote the library to other students

  • Join us for 3 library events each semester and give your feedback on the event

Deliverables are intentionally flexible so you can focus on developing your talents and promote the library resources that interest you most. The goal is for each ambassador to bring their unique skills and passions into the role, ensuring the program reflects the diverse interests of our student body.

Don't stress - you're not being graded! The goal is to have fun, strengthen your own abilities, and connect other students to the library's free resources.
