Spotting Fake News

How to spot fake news

Fact-checking sites:

FactCheck.org - A ''nonpartisan, nonprofit 'consumer advocate' for voters that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics.

Snopes - Established in 1994 to cover internet haoxes and folklore, it now has pages on all sorts of claims. Includes sources in their fact-checking.

Politifact - Started in 2007 by the Tampa Bay Times to fact-check statements made by politicians. Has added more topics beyond politics since then.

SciCheck - Part of FactCheck.org that specializes in science news and claims.

Media Bias/Fact Check - Contains reports on hundreds of media outlets and ranks their bias from left to right. Ad-heavy site is purposeful, as it is one way the website creators support the site. This is addressed in the Transparency tab of the website's menu.
