Ecology & Evolutionary Biology

This guide has been created as a supplement to the Ecology & Evolutionary Biology lab class. Students may use this guide to review helpful tips on searching, citing sources, and library research in general.

Suggested Titles

The following list is by no means meant to be all inclusive.  It is simply a list of suggested titles to help you get started.  If you have any questions about finding books on your topic, please ask a reference librarian!

Why Books?

Books are the best source for in-depth information when you really need to know a subject inside and out. Typical books are structured in such a way as to lead you from having little knowledge about a subject to a more thorough understanding; this cannot usually be said for web resources or articles. Scholarly articles are typically written by and for experts in a field and so cannot be easily understood by someone that is not already familiar with the jargon of that area. Web resources are often the best option for up to date information, but usually do not provide any in depth examination of the information.

Web resources and periodicals can be great resources as well, and there are many things that can be done better in that medium.
