How to Submit a GIL Express Request

To place a GIL Express request, follow the instructions below:

1.  From GIL-Find@USG catalog, log in by clicking on "Sign in/Request items" located at the top right of page.    

 

2.  Click on the appropriate login for your status and enter your username and password. 

  • Students: Use your TIGERWORLD credentials.  If you have forgotten your information or need to reset your password, click here
  • Faculty/Staff:  Use your username which is your ID number (starts with 915 or 150). Your password is Firstname_Lastname (e.g. Jane_Doe). 

    If you need assistance with logging into your account, please contact us.

 

3.  Search for the title you need in the GIL-Find@USG catalogIf Savannah State University does not have the book you need, or if the book is out on loan, etc., search the GIL Universal catalog to find USG libraries owning the title.

  • Click on the drop down arrow next to "Savannah State University" and select "University System of Georgia."  

 

4.  When the results display, click on "Find and Request" for the title you are interested in.

 

5.  Under "How to Get It", select an institution and click on "Available in Institution" to see if the item is "Available" or if there is "No available services for this Item."

 

6.  Click on "Available" and the screen below will display.  To request item click , and then.

 

7. Once the request has been submitted a  message will display letting you know your request was successfully placed.

 

8. Remember to SIGN OUT of your library account.

 

You will receive an email notice when the book arrives. Please pickup at your earliest convenience.

Please Note:  Books not picked up within ten days will be returned to the lending library. 

 

GIL Express FAQs

How long does it take?

  • GIL Express books typically arrive within 3-5 business days and are held for 10 days before being sent back to the lending institution.

How long may I keep an item borrowed through GIL Express?

  • GIL Express items have a 28-day loan period.  Two automatic renewals are given unless the item has been recalled.

Recall Fines

  • If a USG library chooses to charge recall fines for GIL Express materials, the fines will be $2.50 a day for each recalled item. Recall fines apply to all patrons.

How many GIL Express requests may I make?

  • All patrons may have up to 50 requests at once.

What materials are available for borrowing?

  • Books

What materials are not available?

  • The materials below are typically not available through GIL Express.
    • Articles/photocopies
    • Reference books
    • Microfilm or microfiche
    • Entire sets or issues
    • Newspapers
    • Audiovisual materials/computer software
    • Best sellers/new books
    • Fragile, bulky, or special collection materials

Items not circulated through GIL Express may be available through our Interlibrary Loan.  See Instructions For Submitting an Interlibrary Loan Request.

Overdue Materials

  • Patrons with overdue GIL Express material from any of the USG libraries borrowing privileges will be blocked. This block will be effective at all libraries, including Asa H. Gordon Library. Patrons will also be blocked in SSU's Registrar/Bursar system and subjected to late fees or fines charged by the lending institution.

Lost/Damaged Material

  • All patrons are responsible for paying the lending institution's replacement cost for damaged or lost GIL Express materials.

Check the Status of Your Request

How do I check the status of my GIL Express Request?

  • To access your library account click on Sign in/Request items in GIL-Find Catalog.
  • Check the progress of your request through the "My Library Account" option.
  • Click on the name of the university to the left of the screen to view titles requested or currently checked out.
  • Remember to SIGN OUT.
  • When picking it up, ask for the book at the circulation desk when you receive an email notification that it has arrived.
