Resource Sharing is a vital service that expands student, faculty, and staff access to materials, such as books, journals, articles, CDs, etc., that may not be available in Asa H. Gordon Library collection. Asa H. Gordon Library's Interlibrary Loan office manages the following Resource Sharing Services:

  • GIL Express
  • Interlibrary Loan Borrowing
  • Interlibrary Loan Lending

What's the difference between GIL Express and Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

GIL Express logo

GIL Express is an innovative resource sharing initiative that allows students, faculty, and staff access to all eligible circulating books at all USG libraries.  It is a transaction between the patron and the USG library.  Patrons can request books in the GIL-Find catalog (a shared catalog of the USG libraries), pick them up, and return them to Asa H. Gordon Library or any USG institution.  See Instructions for Submitting a GIL Express Request.  This service is always free.

Other types of resources, including articles or books that are not available via GIL Express, may be requested via Interlibrary Loan. See Instructions for Submitting an Interlibrary Loan Request.

Interlibrary Loan Borrowing

The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Borrowing unit of the ILL office supports the educational and research needs of the Savannah State University students, faculty, and staff by obtaining materials that are not available in Asa H. Gordon Library or USG Libraries. ILL Borrowing allows ILL staff to request materials for patrons from any participating U.S. library. It is a transaction between libraries. Generally, there is no charge for using the ILL service.  However, if there is a fee you will be contacted via email.

Before submitting an ILL request:

  • Make sure your library account is free of fines and overdue materials.
  • For books, check GIL Find to make sure it is not available in Asa H. Gordon Library collection or via GIL Express from another USG Library.
  • For e-books, check GALILEO eBook Databases to make sure it is not available and accessible to you online.
  • For articles, do a E-Journal Search first to see if full text is available via one of our databases.

For more information see Instructions for Submitting an Interlibrary Loan Request.

Interlibrary Loan Lending

The Interlibrary Loan Lending unit of the ILL office provide access to materials from Asa H. Gordon Library collections to other institutions across the country.  We do not provide loans internationally; however, we do provide scans of articles/book chapters.

  • If you are not a Savannah State University faculty, student, or staff but want access to materials owned by Asa H. Gordon Library, contact your library's ILL office.  Your library will send your request(s) to our lending unit.
  • If you are a librarian from another institution and need materials from Asa H. Gordon Library for your patrons, please send request(s) to our lending unit via OCLC.

For more information see Interlibrary Loan Lending Procedures for Other Libraries/Institutions.
